TÜRKİYE’YE HOŞ GELDİNİZ
For some football matches, the venue can be as significant as the contestants. The 2019 UEFA Super Cup, which will feature two English teams for the first time, will be played in our beloved Istanbul – a leading global metropolis rooted in history and rich cultural heritage.
All eyes from across the sporting world will be on Istanbul once again. The 2005 UEFA Champions League final is still fresh in our minds, even after so many years, as is the 2009 UEFA Cup final that was also played here.
Beşiktaş Park, which will host tonight’s meeting between Liverpool and Chelsea, is one of the most modern stadiums in Turkey, praised by world-renowned coaches and players for its atmosphere. I have no doubt that the stadium will offer an unforgettable experience for fans at the game.
I would like to thank the members of the Local Organising Committee, who have put an extensive amount of effort into organising this match with careful guidance from UEFA. We are also grateful to the local authorities, who have cooperated with the Turkish Football Federation perfectly.
We are truly honoured to host this event, and see it as another opportunity to showcase our Turkish hospitality.
I would like to welcome all of our guests who have come to Istanbul to watch the UEFA Super Cup, and would advise them to make time to discover the beauties of our city. I also wish both teams and their officials, as well as the match officials, the best of luck in this challenging game.
Have a great night of football.
